The 2019 Monster Energy S-X Open in Auckland is set to feature a range of action-packed competition, with the SX1 and SX2 Classes set to bring fireworks, along with the Yamaha Celebrity Challenge which will see some of the nations familiar faces doing battle on TTR 125’s. One of the most prestigious events, however, will be when the ANZAC’s take on Team USA, for the ultimate nationalistic pride.
Team USA enters a strong team with a total of six World Supercross Championships between them, as the GOAT Ricky Carmichael leads the team into battle. In the wings will be 2018 World Champ, Jason Anderson, along with current World #8 and new Factory Suzuki signing, Joey Savatgy.
“This race is very important to us. Everyone knows worldwide how patriotic we American’s are, regardless of the circumstance. For our countries reputation to be on the line in the showdown race, we’re going to give it all we got for the stars and stripes,” comments Carmichael.
The ANZAC team will see both Australian and New Zealand competitors on the gates, with 2 x World Champion Chad Reed at the helm. Former motocross World Champion Ben Townley will enter the fold after months of back and forth exchanges on social media with Ricky Carmichael, with New Zealand motocross legend Cody Cooper completing the line-up.
“I’m excited to once again be lining up for Team Australia. I never hesitate to pull on the green and gold when required, and when selected, so I’ll once again be all in and try lead Australia to a victory,” commented Reed.
The race format will see a relay style structure, with each rider completing a single lap before the rider next in line takes off.
